Wu, Ching Chih
Enamel artist from Taiwan
Wu is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on metalwork, sculpture and enamel jewellery design. He started his professional career with works mainly demonstrating his masterful craftwork skills, later advancing his works by weaving in reflections and observations of the natural elements apparent in Taiwan. Additionally, as well as his creative process being quite different from the typical craft-making process, the shapes or functions of Wu’s works are not assigned until he decides what would be the best way to express his thoughts.
With sophisticated skill in shaping and refining his works, Wu uses craft to communicate with the relationship between the audience and the world around us through his own interpretation. From accessories to spatial sculptures, Wu has received awards for his work in Taiwan, Japan, Lithuania and Italy, and has also previously been a speaker for a Hermes workshop in Hong Kong.
